Guitar Stores: A Musician's Best Friend

Guitar Stores: A Musician's Best Friend

Who doesn’t like spending time at a guitar shop? There’s nothing quite like dozens of beautiful guitars of all shapes and colors hanging on the wall. Amps ready to plug into and fun representatives ready to assist you in your quest for the perfect guitar, amp, pedals, and, most of all, tone. Never do business with a music store that won’t let you play the merchandise. Who wants to buy a guitar you can’t play a while or an amp you can’t crank up for a minute to see what she can do? Also, if you mail order, you can’t hear it or play it. It’s risky business ordering online and waiting to see if it’s what you really wanted. Sure, you can return it, but what a hassle.

Used Guitars: Should I Play Them or Not?

Used Guitars: Should I Play Them or Not?

New versus used guitars is a great topic. In this post, we’ll look at the pros and cons of playing a used guitar. Who doesn’t like walking into a music shop and walking out with a brand new guitar? The smell of the case and the wood is intoxicating. No scratches and no wear. You feel like you got a great deal and you’re inspired to play. Hopefully, the music shop set it up for you and made sure it was ready to go. Some new guitars come off the wall in terrible playing condition. The strings can get old and rusty while sitting in the shop, so you should get a free set of strings and some other goodies. Otherwise it’s like buying a used guitar but paying the new guitar price. Should you look for good used guitars?

Teach Yourself Guitar: More Than Just Chords

Teach Yourself Guitar: More Than Just Chords

It is interesting how so many singer/songwriters can only strum the guitar enough to write or perform a song. Maybe they just never were interested in creating the lead lines or fills and just left that to the studio guys or perhaps they simply didn’t want to put in the endless hours of wood shedding it takes to be really good at soloing. No matter where you fit in, you can teach yourself guitar and know how to play more than just chords. Imagine going into the studio prepared and being able to show the lead player what you want. That’d raise some eyebrows. Especially when they're used to creating it on their own. Suddenly you're on the creative end making decisions. That’s awesome!

Why You Should Play the Guitar Daily

Why You Should Play the Guitar Daily

Assuming you’re well on your journey as a guitarist, you already know the value of playing every single day. For some, their occupation is just a means of income and family support. That’s wonderful! You may be a guitarist who works a 9 to 5 but finds time to play at least an hour before you go to work or sleep. You don’t have to be a professional guitarist earning income to be a good player. Whatever you do for a living, you still need a daily routine to continue growing and keep the music you’ve learned fresh. However, if you are a professional guitarist and you earn your living that way, it doesn’t mean you need to “get a real job” either. Just because you earn a living doing something you absolutely love doesn’t mean you're not doing work.

Custom Guitars: The Best and the Brightest

Custom Guitars: The Best and the Brightest

When it comes to custom guitars, there seems to be an endless supply of contenders, all of them having their own unique finish or set up. It’s a daunting task to narrow them down to a few of the best and brightest, but we can sure give you some of our favorites. With respect, there are small companies and bigger, more successful companies, but size doesn’t always decide the winner. Some of the smaller companies give a ton of attention to detail and stand out as some of the best in the business. Before you leap into a mega purchase of a custom built guitar, really do some research and, if at all possible, go play one and spend some time with it before you spend the money. Having a guitar custom built is risky.
